Inspiration of the Day, December 25, 2013:

This was the prayer during the lighting of the candle at the Christmas Eve service of my church:

"As we find ourselves wrapped in the season of wonder and light, the astonishment that is life ignites our spirits, and we feel, if merely for a moment, that we are as we were meant to be.

"May we hold fast to this sliver of mystery, this truth upon which we set the whole of who we are. May we call ourselves back to it time and again, until we are filled with the wonder that is our life - its hope, its peace, its joy, its love. Infused, then, with all that we are, may our energies be given to the transformation of this world - from despair into hope; from darkness into light; from fear into love. May we be bold. May we be daring. May we be love."

Tidings of comfort and joy.....

One reason why you should think before you tweet.....

Came across this on one of the blogs I follow. While I've seen worse tweets from celebrities, it bummed me out because it came from a celebrity I actually like:

And here we are again. *sigh*

Some months ago, Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb were on their live TV talk show and were making fun of people using wheelchairs in airports to get to their gate and then walking onto the plane under their own power. The hosts implied these people were faking a disability so they could be the first ones to board and disembark. I admit I don't watch their show because I have always found Gifford and Kotb annoying, but their rudeness certainly didn't win me over.

Inspiration for the Day, December 9, 2013:

Why Are We So Driven?

Why are we so driven
As tho' all depended on us?
The earth will in its orbit be
And a zillion stars still twinkle
At our absurdity.
Slow down, step back, relax.
Look at where you're going.
Look back to where you've been.
Take a deep breath, whisper a prayer,
And step outside your skin.
Do you see it now?
The futility of the treadmill,
The frenetic, frantic fretting
That forever leads us on and on,
Forever going - never getting!
Whisper a prayer.
Now step inside your skin
With new found peace, your heart at ease...
Walk hand in hand with Him.

Inspiration for the Day, December 8, 2013:

This Too Shall Pass

When the road is rough, when life is rougher,
When everything has gone awry,
A little grin, a lifted chin
Helps some, my dear, helps some.
When life is harsh, beset with pain,
When all the world's gone down the drain,
Remember these words, take heart again,
"This too shall pass."
No one's said life's easy.
Go pick up the pieces,
Then forge ahead with lifted clearer head,
You can be better than before.
Each obstacle's a stepping stone,
Every frustration but a door
That can lead to a life much fuller
Than has been heretofore.

Inspiration for the Day, December 7, 2013:

Let Me Not Judge

Let me not judge, oh God, not judge,
Till I've walked in his or her shoes a way.
Give me the wisdom, the love, the grace,
To choose the right words,
The time, the place.
The gentle touch that means so much to troubled hearts full of anguish,
Let not the day pass, oh Lord, without a gentle touch and a word to soothe that troubled heart.
I too have troubles both big and small that seem sometimes overwhelming.
I am tired and cross and sometimes at a loss until I remember, in giving, I am getting.
I'm hurting today dear God. Words were unkindly spoken by thoughtless folks
Who haven't walked in my shoes a way.
What do I do Lord, what do I do?
The answer came softly, "Love, love." But I hurt too much!
Love, ah yes, LOVE!
That mystical, wonderful phenomenon, LOVE,
Has healed many a heart.
It permeates the soul and radiates apart.
Like a mirrored pond when a pebble drops upon it.

Inspiration for the Day, December 6, 2013:

I Have a Choice

I have a choice, God made me free,
To wallow in muck and mire.
I have a choice, God gave it to me,
To revel in selfish desire.
I have the choice, God granted me,
To be angry, hateful and tease.
I have the choice, God gave it to me,
To be whatever I please.
I have a choice, God made me free,
To rise above the muck and mire.
I have the choice, God gave it to me,
To renounce selfish desire.
I have the choice, God granted me,
To be loving, gentle and kind.
I have the choice, God made me free,
To choose where I spend eternity.

Inspiration for the Day, December 5, 2013:

Let Love

Think not yourself greater than he/she
Lying in vomit and shame.
Nor less than a queen or president,
Or other with high sounding name.
Hold your head up high, not falsely proud,
Your soul with compassion fill.
Let LOVE speak from your heart and lips.
In all your dealings here on earth,
Let LOVE flow through your fingertips
To comfort those who hurt!

Inspiration for the Day, December 4, 2013:

'Tis Not Enough

'Tis not enough to speak the words
They're empty, null and void.
The aching heart's not cheered by them
Nor the sagging spirit buoyed.
Unless - until they're matched by deeds
Of loving kindness and concern.
Without a single thought of
"What's in it for me?"

Inspiration for the Day, December 3, 2013:

Adversity

There is a word in the dictionary spelled
A-D-V-E-R-S-I-T-Y, some definitions of which are
"a wretched state...a misfortune, a calamity".
Experience has taught me this about
That wretched word "adversity":
Webster's always spelled it wrong!!
It's a misfortune and a calamity,
And with him I can't go along!
I move we reprimand the dunce
Who has o'er the years led many awry,
Spell it out correctly for once:
O-P-P-O-R-T-U-N-I-T-Y!

Inspiration for the Day, December 2, 2013:

Oh Please, Oh Please

My bunion aches, my shoulder's lame,
My eyes are dry and tired.
My get up and go got up and went,
If the boss walks in, I may be fired.
Oh golly, oh gosh, oh gee, oh my,
Will this day never end?
Aaaahhh...aaaaaaaahhhhhhh
Home at last.
The sink is piled with dishes high,
The house is all a-scramble,
With jacket here, shoes over there,
And newspapers all a-shambled.
Will someone here, oh please oh please,
Give this old gal a break?
Clean up the mess, your own plus some,
It would my whole day make!
You're busy, I know, I'm busy too,
Let's pull in this team together,
A half hour a day would do it I'd say
And keep me from getting MORE MADDER!

Inspiration for the Day, December 1, 2013:

A few weeks ago, a very nice lady from my church passed away from natural causes. At the funeral, they showed a video of her reciting original poems aloud. They also gave each of us who attended a booklet of the poems. As a tribute to Marion Serr and a life well-lived, I will post these poems over the next several days for all to enjoy:

Free to Soar

Confined within this body,
oft shackled by my will,
the spirit strives with might and mien
to transcend the pettiness, the pain,
until at last dark earth my blanket is,
and the brief sojourn is o'er.
Weep not for the body, cold and still;
my soul is free to soar.
