Did you know that, even in states where gay marriage is legal, a same-sex spouse is barred from receiving survivor's benefits such as Social Security in the event of their partner's death? I figure if a person is committed enough to become legally married, a spouse is a spouse is a spouse. The government should recognize them as such, particularly in the states that have approved gay marriage.
