'tis the season for gratitude....
An article of mine from 2005 has been re-posted on But You Don't Look Sick. A lot has changed for me since I wrote it, but the basic ideas expressed are still appropriate....
The Blessings of Chronic Illness?
It has been more of a challenge to stay positive after moving to South Dakota and being confronted by disbelieving doctors. And there are people in my life (I decline to hint at whom) who equate my illness with moral weakness and laziness. But I still manage to be happy for the most part and try my best to appreciate whatever good comes my way.

Comments:
I've read this article several times since you introduced me to the But You Don't Look Sick site, and I just love it. You strike just the right note, being positive without being Pollyanna-ish. I've been ill since 1996, and more and more I believe that counting our blessings (and making our blessings count) is the most powerful tool we have for making our lives meaningful and joyful. So thank you!

Soap box accepted, lol. A person who cannot find any blessings in their life is going to have more trouble getting through dark days.
